Klinger is considered to be one of the world\u2019s foremost  authorities on Sherlock Holmes, Dracula, H. P. Lovecraft, Frankenstein,  and the history of mystery and horror fiction. Klinger is a long-time  member of the Baker Street Irregulars, and served as the Series Editor  for the Manuscript Series of The Baker Street Irregulars; he is  currently the Series Editor for the BSI\u2019s Biography Series. He served  three terms as Chapter President of the SoCal Chapter of the Mystery  Writers of America and on its National Board. He is also the Treasurer  of the Horror Writers Association and serves as Co-Editor of <em>The Haunted Library<\/em>,  a series of horror classics published by the HWA. He lectures  frequently on Holmes, Dracula, Lovecraft, Frankenstein and their worlds,  including frequent panels at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books,  Bouchercon, NecronomiCon, StokerCon, World Horror Convention, World  Fantasy Convention, VampireCon, Comicpalooza, WonderCon, and San Diego  Comic-Con, and he has taught several courses on Holmes and Dracula at  UCLA Extension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Klinger\u2019s work has received numerous awards and nominations,  including the Edgar\u00ae for Best Critical-Biographical Book in 2005 for <em><a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/books\/the-new-annotated-sherlock-holmes-the-complete-short-stories-the-adventures-of-sherlock-holmes-and-the-memoirs-of-sherlock-holmes-non-slipcased\/9780393059144\">The New Annotated Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Short Stories<\/a> <\/em>and the Edgar\u00ae for Best Critical-Biographical Book in 2019 for <em><a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/books\/classic-american-crime-fiction-of-the-1920s\/9781681778617\">Classic American Crime Fiction of the 1920s<\/a> <\/em>and the Anthony for Best Anthology in 2015 for <em><a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/books\/in-the-company-of-sherlock-holmes-lib-e-stories-inspired-by-the-holmes-canon\/9781483026695\">In the Company of Sherlock Holmes<\/a> <\/em>(co-edited  with Laurie R. King); he was nominated for an Edgar\u00ae for Best  Critical-Biographical Book in 2006, two nominations for the Bram Stoker  Award\u00ae for Best Nonfiction book, and is currently nominated for an  Anthony for Best Critical\/Non-fiction for <em><a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/books\/classic-american-crime-fiction-of-the-1920s\/9781681778617\">Classic American Crime Fiction of the 1920s<\/a><\/em>. His <em><a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/books\/the-new-annotated-frankenstein\/9780871409492\">New Annotated Frankenstein<\/a><\/em>  was recently nominated for a World Fantasy Award. His introductions and  essays have appeared in numerous books, graphic novels, academic  journals, newspapers, the Los Angeles Review of Books, and Playboy  Magazine; he also reviews books for the Los Angeles Times. He was the  technical advisor for Warner Bros. on the film <em>Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows<\/em> (2011) and served (without credit) in that role for Warner Bros.\u2019 earlier hit <em>Sherlock Holmes<\/em> (2009). He has consulted on a number of novels, comic books, and graphic novels featuring Holmes and Dracula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les attended the University of California where he received an A.B. \nin English; he also attended the University of California School of Law \n(Boalt Hall), where he obtained a J.D. degree. He and his wife Sharon \nhave five adult children, six grandchildren, and live in Malibu with \ntheir dog and cat.&nbsp;By day, Klinger practices law in Westwood, \nspecializing in tax, estate planning, and business&nbsp;law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lisamorton.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/headshot1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-198\" width=\"206\" height=\"308\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lisamorton.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/headshot1.jpg 408w, https:\/\/lisamorton.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/headshot1-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 206px) 100vw, 206px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">Lisa Morton is a screenwriter, author of non-fiction books, Bram Stoker  Award\u00ae-winning prose writer, and Halloween expert whose work was  described by the American Library Association\u2019s <em>Readers\u2019 Advisory Guide to Horror<\/em>  as \u201cconsistently dark, unsettling, and frightening.\u201d&nbsp; She has published  four novels, more than 150 short stories, and three books on the history of  Halloween. Her most recent releases include the anthology <em><a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/books\/ghost-stories-classic-tales-of-horror-and-suspense\/9781643135953\">Ghost Stories: Classic Tales of Horror and Suspense<\/a> <\/em>(co-edited with Leslie Klinger), and the nonfiction study <em><a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/books\/calling-the-spirits-a-history-of-seances\/9781789142808\">Calling the Spirits: A History of Seances<\/a><\/em>; her short stories have appeared in <em><a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/books\/best-american-mystery-stories-2020\/9781328636102\">Best American Mystery Stories 2020<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/books\/final-cuts-new-tales-of-hollywood-horror-and-other-spectacles\/9780525565758\">Final Cuts<\/a><\/em> (edited by Ellen Datlow), and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.weirdtales.com\/\">Weird Tales<\/a><\/em> magazine.
